Canning Season 2017

This year has been very busy with canning. We’ve made:

  • Stewed Rhubarb 
  • Green beans
  • Stewed Tomatoes
  • Salsa
  • Chili Sauce
  • Cowboy Candy
  • Apple Jam
  • Green Tomato Relish
  • Applesauce
  • Pickles (that turned out terribly! Lol)
  • Peaches
  • Pears
  • Elderberry Juice
  • Elderberry syrup
  • Elderberry Jelly
  • Plum Jam
  • Pepper Jelly
  • Pickled Beets

In addition to that, we’ve added a lot of yummy things to the freezer:

  • Pesto
  • Roasted Tomato Sauce
  • Zucchini bread
  • Zucchini muffins
  • Summer squash casserole 

In short: I’m tired! Lol. Yesterday was our Applesauce day to restock our food storage with applesauce. My sister, mom, and I with the help of our families, worked for roughly 14 hours washing, chopping, cooking, straining, bottling, and processing 175 jars of applesauce. While talking about the day, we agreed that we all know what needs to happen in each step, so we work well together. We could also feel the influence of our ancestors as we used Great-Grandma’s hand me down canner, Grandpa’s hand me down pressure canning pot, and the knowledge of self reliance that has been passed down from generation to generation.

My sister and I love to preserve food together. We definitely feed off of each other and love to work together.

It’s been an awesome canning year! Now life can return to as normal as it ever gets. ❤️ Hooray for a beautiful, full food storage!
